What verification has actually found: 3,902 of 6,374 sources (61.2%) have had their link re-checked live by the verification ledger. That number is published here, not buried, because a citation record that implies more checking than has happened is the same failure the record exists to prevent.
“Unconfirmed” does not mean unchecked by a person. Every URL
here was read during research; the standing rule is that an unverified source renders as
plain text and never as a guessed link. It means no live re-check has run since the
backbone grew past its last verification pass. “Cited by name” sources carry no
URL at all — books, standards, and print-era papers cited the way a bibliography cites
them. Re-checking runs as a batch from a machine with network access
(_urlverify.py --run); each pass updates these tallies.
